Shirley Phelps-Roper Gives America and Christianism a BAD NAME!

While browsing through my Facebook account's News Feed, I came to reading one of the petitions which got my interest- it said Ban Shirley Phelps-Roper from Canada. And of course, anything interesting calls for some Googling.

Then all the crazy stuff filled me in.

Shirley Phelps-Roper is one of the most public spokesperson (aside from her dad - the minister) of an independent church in the US known as Westboro Baptist Church. This so-called religious assemblage of about a hundred is often referred to as a "Hate Group".

They spread out their ministry of ill misconception to the public through staging controversial campaigns after another. Among the most popular is their picketing during funerals of AIDS victims as well as American soldiers killed in war. Among their sick ideologies that their picket banners shout include:

  • God hates fags
  • God hates Muslims
  • God hates Jews
  • God hates America
  • God hates 'you'
Just to name a few. And these aggressive and bitter demonstrations earned as much hate, throughout America and the world.

Currently, both Shirley Phelps-Roper and her father Fred Phleps are banned from entering UK for "fostering extremism or hatred".

The group maintains several websites including:
God Hates Fags
God Hates The World
America Is Doomed
Priests Rape Boys
Sign Movies
Spare Not (Blogs)
Antichrist Obama
Jews Killed Jesus

Here's a video of the delusional Shirley Phelps-Roper getting some good piece of Fox News anchor Julie Banderas' mind. A must-watch:

A Collection of Odd Facts

As was mentioned in my personal blog- Pieces of Aweng, this blog was borne out of my never-ceasing interest in everything out of the ordinary. (See post here...) The reason why I decided to search, read on and share a bizarrely delightful collection of odd facts. And here goes...

  • Ever wonder why you and your pops often end up talking about those painful ingrowns? Fact is, toenail ingrowns can be inherited. :)

  • If you stripped a tiger bald from all its fur, what do you get? A bald tiger with striped skin. :) The stripes are not only imprinted on its fur... it's skin deep.

  • Like people and their fingerprints, no two lions have the same whisker patterns.

  • Just read this and I never knew... Robert Zimmerman is the real name of the Legend- Bob Marley.

  • In Paraguay, people can engage in a 'legal' duel- for as long as they are registered blood donors.

  • Where in the world would the Speaker of the House not be allowed to speak? Answer: England.
  • Did you know that Japanese have square watermelons? Not a fad. I even checked for photos.. :)) They found this method of growing watermelons to square for easier stacking.

  • In Cleveland Ohio, to capture a mouse a hunting license is legally required.

Poisonous Food- Indulge?

Unknown to many, some of the most common food that many of us regularly consume can be poisonous… These could easily have become a favorite but unwittingly consuming the wrong plant part containing poison could lead to and have led to some accidental past deaths. And as they are some of the most common things we bring to our kitchen, together with our regular grocery items, you should be wary about not eating what should not be eaten.

Almonds

The mouthwatering aroma and unique taste of almonds have made it among the most popular ingredients in chocolates, pastries and special add-ons to some of the most famous recipes all throughout the world. But the thing about them is that each seed is jam-packed with cyanide. This very component is what makes almonds bitter and all the more tempting to many. But you wouldn’t be enjoying a lot more of bitter almonds as they are already illegal in some countries including New Zealand. And in the US selling raw almonds has been made unlawful. What you are enjoying now are heat-treated ones.

Apples

Apple seeds, like almonds, also have cyanide but in smaller doses. Though eating apples would often result to swallowing some seeds accidentally, it takes a good number of seeds to chew and consume to get sick. And even a greater amount to die.

Cherries

Good enough to eat… That’s how cherries make just any pastry, and liquor at that, as tempting. Small yet succulent, cherries are delicious as its seeds are poisonous- producing prussic acid (hydrogen cyanide) with the slightest injury so much more if crushed or chewed. Yes, and this goes with other fruits under its family including peaches, plums and apricots. Never forget: do not chew or suck on the seeds.

Tomatoes

Regardless if you consider it a vegetable or fruit (specifically a berry), a tomato is technically the ovary of the plant. Glycoalkaloid is a chemical that when induced causes stomach upsets and extreme nervousness, and the stems and leaves of the tomato plant is rich with this. These plant parts are also used to add more flavor to any dish. You’d have to be careful though and remember to take them out before serving.

Potatoes

The same goes with potato leaves and stems. But unlike tomatoes, potatoes themselves also have concentrations of glycoalkaloid poison specifically dangerous when they are left for some time and have already turned green.

Woolly Mammoths: The End is Near... of Your Imaginings that Is

The famous Speilberg film based on the novel written by Michael Crichton has popularized the idea of bringing back extinct animals to life--in the form of dinosaurs big and small. But did you know that this idea of Crichton which decades ago may seem a far cry from reality is slowly becoming a possibility?

Mammoths are known to be huge beasts that are closely related to modern elephants that are made distinct by their long, curved tusks and long hair as body covering. The largest known species discovered reaches an average minimum height of five meters. Though the last of them died with the last Ice Age, the very reason for their mass extinction still remains obscure.

There have been a series of unrelated plans to resurrect these giants. A team of Japanese genetic scientists have once planned to scour the Earth for a frozen mammoth specimen that could give them its ancient sperm to be injected to a surrogate mother. This has been a part of a much bigger plan of recreating Jurassic Park in real life but not of dinosaurs but of species from the Ice Age.

Throughout the years scientists are getting closer and closer to this aim.

The pre-historic beast from the famed Ice Age with its shaggy hair everywhere might soon walk the Earth again. A 25,000 year old fossil mammoth hair found in the Siberian permafrost has proved that compared with bones and muscles, this body part is a better source of ancient DNA. From it, over 3 billion DNA building blocks have been mapped on the first draft, giving out new clues on extinction and evolution for scientists to further study. So far, a good number of interesting findings on evolution have surfaced.

The new million dollar study done by Penn State University researchers have already sequenced 80% of the mammoth's gene map. Years from now engineering of mammoth cells may be done.

The famed director Steven Spielberg, may be right in living a quote for skeptical scientists criticizing the Jurassic Park, "This is the science of eventuality."
